The Â鶹´«Ã½ has capped off a week of graduation celebrations, as thousands of students were able to receive their awards.
The ceremonies were held in a special marquee on Ipswich waterfront from Saturday, following the opening ceremony at Great Yarmouth Minster for Â鶹´«Ã½ at East Coast College students on Friday last week.
Among those to graduate this week was Alice Lawes, who studied Graphic Design.
Shortly after exhibiting her work at June’s annual Arts Degree Show, Alice, from Ipswich, secured a job as a Graphic Design Executive at Ipswich Town Football Club, putting the skills she learned over the course of her studies into practice every day.
“I really enjoyed my time at university,” the 21-year-old said. “What I reflect on most is how much I loved seeing my friends every day, working alongside course mates and lecturers in a studio environment. I’ll also miss the creativity of the teaching on the course that helped me develop and hone my skills in graphic design – the playful, friendly atmosphere made it such a great place to learn.”
Another to graduate was Vicki Webber, who received the Royal Society of Biology (RSB) Top Student Award, which recognises the achievements of outstanding undergraduate biologists.
Vicki, from Sudbury, graduated in BSc (Hons) Biological Sciences, and has now secured a place to study Veterinary Science and Medicine.
“I would never have thought I would complete a science degree and to be awarded the RSB Top Student is an absolute privilege that means so much to me,” she said.
“I very much want to be a vet and go on to study Veterinary Science and Medicine – it has always been my goal to help the animals who are displaced and need an advocate with the right medical knowledge to care for them.”
Zoe Saunders, SU President of Activities and Wellbeing, achieved a First Class BSc (Hons) Criminology and Sociology this year. She said: "I am immensely proud to have joined the other graduates this year in walking the stage and completing the final step of our degrees.
“I know the strength and determination it took to get to this point and I hope all graduates take a moment to reflect on their own journey and achievements. Good luck to all graduates in their future endeavours."
In addition to the students across the university’s courses, two honorary doctorates were also awarded to broadcaster and film producer Emma Freud OBE, and historian and author Dr Alison Weir.
Professor Jenny Higham, Â鶹´«Ã½ Vice-Chancellor, said: “Seeing Ipswich waterfront buzzing with students celebrating with their families, friends and tutors is the highlight of our year, recognising the culmination of all of their hard work.
“We offer our warmest congratulations to all those who graduated this week, and look forward to seeing them thrive in their future endeavours.”
